Right next to Phil’s pizza is a Chinese restaurant called “King Wok”. On Varick Street, between Downing and West Houston street, there is the popular fast food chain, McDonalds, where plenty of students indulge themselves in unhealthy (but delicious) junk food. Here, students can buy a variety of sandwiches for lunch. On West Houston Street, another fast food chain, Subway, is located. Burritos, bowls, quesadillas, tacos, and other Mexican dishes are available here. The delicious but expensive Mexican chain, Chipotle, is located on Varick street between King and West Houston. On the corner of Varick and King Street, there is a small food truck that serves hot dogs, falafels, and other food and drinks. It is a popular place for iSchool students to buy lunch and sit down. On the corner of Varick and Charlton Street, a small deli serves pizza and bagels. At Essen, they serve a variety of foods, such as sandwiches, sushi, noodles, and plenty more. Essen, the fast-slow-food restaurant, is on the corner of Varick and Vandam Street. Starbucks, the popular coffee chain, is conveniently located only 2 blocks away from the iSchool on the corner of Spring street and Varick. Slava Hausler-Lew, a freshman at the iSchool is seen here holding a baguette in front of a shelf displaying a variety of different types of bread inside of Trader Joe’s. A variety of goods and premade meals are available to buy here at fair prices. The grocery chain Trader Joe’s is on Spring Street between Varick street and 6th avenue.

Here, coffee and other food is served for very cheap. A small coffee cart located on the corner of Spring Street and 6th avenue is right next to the Spring Street Subway station. There are plenty of benches and other seating areas available for students to sit down and enjoy their lunch. Out of all the places students go for lunch, here are some of the most popular: Spring Street Park is located directly across from the iSchool. Many students buy food from various places, while others bring lunch from home and find a place to sit outside.

At the NYC iSchool, students have the privilege of going outside during lunch. Each year since its opening, the school has added approximately 120 new ninth graders the school is now at capacity with approximately 470 students and occupies the fourth and fifth floors of its current building.ĭespite the challenge of acceptance to the school (the school receives about 4000 applications each year for 120 spots), the iSchool has attracted and admitted a remarkably diverse student body, with students coming to the school from all five boroughs of New York City, some traveling over an hour and a half to attend the school each day. The iSchool shares its space with another DOE high school and operates within the same policies and regulations of any NYC public high school. The iSchool opened its doors in September 2008 with 100 ninth grade students on part of the fifth floor of a 100-plus-year-old school building in the SoHo area of Manhattan.
